A Lenten Letter to Jesus
Dear Lord
“You are at my right hand”[1]— so Isaiah said.
“…the Lord surrounds his people both now and forever”[2]
And, I know that my “body is a temple of the holy Spirit within
[me] whom [I] have from God.”[3]
What marvelous messages we get from the Scriptures.
And the marvel for me is that of these late years I have come to believe more and more these truths.
You are at my right hand, Lord, when I am at Mass, and Mary is at my side.
Right now, you are in this room with me. The sun is shining outside, while inside here, in my Florida room, the Son of God is lighting up my day.
At the same time, and all the time, you are within me, my companion and aid, my comforter, guide and teacher.
From you I gain wisdom and understanding and all the gifts of the Holy Spirit that are so necessary and so helpful to us mortals in our effort to be your disciples; we who live in this self-seeking world that in so many ways is unholy, godless, and downright satanic.
This first Sunday in Lent is a time to reflect on these things, and to ponder on and resolve how I can bring this light that is shining on me from you to others. Here and now, out of this room, let it radiate from me as your disciple wherever I go; to be, if such a thing is possible for a person of my lowliness, a reflection of your light; to shine strongly on everyone I come to meet; to be renewed each succeeding day through you, my Lord and my God. It is possible, because it is your command to us, a reflection of your light, to shine strongly on all whom we come in contact with.
I render you thanks and praise. Amen.
