A Man Listens to the Lord

“I’m sick, the man told himself.”

“I have all these things to do and I don’t feel like doing any of them.” ‘Come to me and I will give you rest.’[1] a thoughtful voice came.

The man frowned and thought, “I could swear I heard someone say that.”

        “Rest?”

“How can my mind rest when I have all these things to do?”

“You need to take time to rest — in me,” the voice said.

“I’m hearing things,” the man thought.

He closed his eyes and just sat there.

He just sat there and wondered.

"Learn of me. I am meek and humble of heart. You will find rest in your soul,"

       The man shook his head.

“Why am I hearing these words, he puzzled?”

       “Hearing them?”

There wasn't a sound in the room.

       But here it came again.

“Why are you so fearful, O you of little faith?”

“But I have faith,” he protested.  “I believe.”

"Show me," the voice came right back at him.

       “Show me?”

        “How?”

“Put your anxieties in my hands. I will help you.”

The man looked around the room.

“Strangest thing,” he thought. “I'm beginning to feel different.” — Quiet — Rested — Peaceful.

“I wonder why I don't care any more about all the things I am too sick to do.”

“It's because you turned them over to me,” answered the voice in his heart. "You know I will help you and that’s all you need to know”

The man smiled then “Thank you. Lord,” he said out loud. He leaned his head against the high chair back, closed his eyes and rested.
